Maternity style has come a long way over the years. Gone are the days of oversized dresses and unflattering tops. Pregnant women have a wide variety of stylish options to choose from that will flatter their bump. Styling my bump was one of the best things about pregnancy.
Here are some tips and tricks for maternity style:
- Embrace Your Bump: Don’t try to hide your bump with loose-fitting clothing. Instead, show it off with form-fitting pieces that accentuate your curves. Maxi dresses and wrap dresses are great options that will grow with you throughout your pregnancy. I was reluctant to go this route initially but once I did, I never looked back. H&M Maternity has such an amazing selection and with weekly online discounts, a great place to shop. And moms, it does take some time for that bump to pop so don’t be discouraged with clothes until then.
- Invest in Maternity Jeans: A good pair of maternity jeans is a must-have. Look for ones that have a stretchy waistband that will grow with you throughout your pregnancy. You can also find ones with a built-in belly panel that provides extra support. This was a bit tricky for me as I didn’t like the ones with the over the belly band and under the belly were a bit too low. Nonetheless, Old Navy had some great options.
- Layer Up: Layering is a great way to add depth to your outfit and stay warm during the colder months. Start with a fitted base layer like a tank top or t-shirt, then add a cardigan or jacket on top. This will also allow you to adjust your temperature throughout the day.
- Stick to Your Style: Just because you’re pregnant doesn’t mean you have to completely change your style. If you’re someone who loves wearing bold prints and bright colors, don’t be afraid to continue doing so during your pregnancy. The same goes for those who prefer a more minimalist or neutral aesthetic. I wore everything that I liked from print too solids.
- Comfort is Key: This is so important as pregnancy can be uncomfortable. Make sure to look for soft, stretchy fabrics that won’t irritate your skin. Shoes are also important – opt for flats or low heels that will support your feet and won’t put too much strain on your back. I mostly wore heels for photos but was always in flats as that felt most comfortable.
Overall, maternity style is all about finding a balance between comfort and fashion. Create a wardrobe that not only makes you feel good but also allows you to embrace your growing bump with confidence. To read more about what I keep in my diaper bag, check out this post.
