Best NETFLIX shows to watch in 2019

With so many choices for Netflix shows, it can be overwhelming to decide what to watch. Below are some of my selections for the best Netflix shows right now including the best Netflix shows to binge:

Schitt$ Creek

Genre: Sitcoms

Stars: Eugene Levy, Catherine O’Hara, Daniel Levy

Seasons:  Currently airing 5

Netflix Synopsis: Suddenly broke, the formerly filthy –rich Rose family is reduced to living in a ramshackle motel in a town they once bought as a joke.

My Take:  Love this show. I’ve watched each season twice already and could probably watch it again for a third time. The characters truly grow on you and each play their roles with such ease that you couldn’t imagine them any other way.  If you like comedies that aren’t laugh out loud, I highly recommend this one. My favorite episode: The Olive Branch.

The Kominsky Method

Genre: Tv Dramas

Stars: Michael Douglas, Alan Arkin, Nancy Travis, Susan Sullivan

Seasons:  1

Netflix Synopsis: Acting coach Sandy Kominsky and best friend Norman Newlander keep each other laughing as they navigate the ups and downs on getting older.

My Take:  Quick 8 episode show that I was reluctant to watch at first. So glad I changed my mind. It was such a heartfelt story amongst two friends.  The show was very real and relatable. I think people in their mid-40s or older would truly appreciate it. Still, worth a watch if you have some time. I’m looking forward to season 2.

Ozark

Genre:  TV Dramas

Stars: Jason Bateman, Laura Linney

Seasons:  2

Netflix Synopsis: A financial adviser drags his family from Chicago to the Missouri Ozarks, where he must launder $500 million in five days.

My Take:  We binged watched Season 1 and truthfully I didn’t really enjoy it. After episode 5, I distinctly remember thinking I can stop watching or just finish it and I chose to finish it. I thought it was a dark and I didn’t like the overall blue feel. Season 2 was completely different for me. I thoroughly enjoyed it. The story picked up right where it left off in Season 1. I really enjoyed how everything came together and how the characters developed and changed.  If you can get through season 1 then you’ll love season 2. Now, I’m anxiously waiting for season 3 this year.

Bodyguard

Genre:  Crime Tv Dramas

Stars: Richard Madden, Keeley Hawes, Sophie Rundle

Seasons:  1

Netflix Synopsis: After helping thwart a terrorist attack, a war veteran is assigned to protect a politician who was a main proponent of the very conflict he fought in.

My Take:  It’s not the best but it is still really good. I think this is a great show to bridge the gap between shows or if you’re looking for something different. It is however a must watch at some point. Richard Madden does wonderfully playing his role and you can see the conflict he deals with. There are some great twists and turns. Personally, I enjoy Homeland more when I’m watching shows with this general plot line.

The Crown

Genre:  British Tv Shows

Stars: Claire Foy, Matt Smith, Vanessa Kirby

Seasons:  2

Netflix Synopsis: This drama follows the political rivalries and romance of Queen Elizabeth II’s reign and the events  that shaped the second half of the 20th century.

My Take:  I’m a huge history buff and really enjoyed this show. Certain episodes of Season 1 were tough to get through but once hooked it was really great. I learnt so much about the Queen and started viewing her through a different light. Season 2 was amazing. Like Ozark, there was depth in the characters, time for opinions to form and learn more about the Royal family. I’m sad the characters are changing for Season 3 but I’m open to giving the show a try. I’ve recommended this show to others and have received a mixed response.  Have you seen it?

Other top Netflix shows right now are Russian Dolls, You, Frankie and Grace, Sex Education and the list goes on!

Would love your thoughts on these shows or any other recommendations you might have.

  2. OK I’ve literally not watched any of the shows on here so I have some major catching up to do! But I did fit in a Friends marathon the other day!
