Half day in Córdoba, SPAIN

Córdoba is a beautiful city in the southern Spanish region of Andalusia and the capital of the province of Córdoba.  We had heard that visiting the city was a must do because of the Mosque of Córdoba. We didn’t hear wrong. We planned our visit as part of our stay in Seville.

Travelling in Spain is so easy with RENFE. We took the train from Santa Justa train station in Seville and in under an hour we were in Córdoba.  Our tickets were purchased the same day from the train station. If you do decide to do this, check the train schedule beforehand.

We are big fans of walking tours so we had booked a tour with Francisco from Seville Free Tours. He provided us a wealth of knowledge – highly recommend his tour company.

Mosque of Córdoba

Also known as the Great Mosque of Córdoba is one of the most unique religious sites that I’ve seen across Europe.  The mosque was commissioned in 784 by then rulers Abd al-Rahman. In 1236 during the Reconquista, it was converted to a Roman Catholic Church. Both types of architecture are clearly visible. TRULY A MUST SEE!

Roman bridge of Córdoba

Of all the bridges I’ve seen, this is most definitely in my Top 5. It’s over 2000 years old, 300 meters long and is built across the Guadalquivir River.  The day we visited Córdoba it was 50 degrees. Needless to say, the walk across the bridge was very hot.

Alcazar de los Reyes Cristianos

Since we had spent a lot of time at the Royal Alcazar in Seville, we did not purchase tickets to enter this site. Also known as the Castle of the Christian Monarchs, this is a medieval alcazar located in the city center.

Calleja de las Flores

Beautiful Street lined with white wall homes and flowers. Great photo opportunity!

E A T S

Because we were only in Córdoba for half a day, we decided to have lunch at Mercado Victoria. It was a foodie’s paradise. With only 30 stalls – it was like doing a world food tour.

We tried falafel from Bocaito Andalusi (Arabian cuisine), chicken wings and many other amazing dishes!

While walking the streets, we did see some great hotels.

Córdoba is a beautiful city but I would not recommend more than one day.  We thoroughly enjoyed our half day visit. Thanks for travelling to Córdoba with me.
