Goodbye Winter; Welcome Spring

Calgary has had a very long and drawn out winter season this year. It was so cold and every weekend it snowed. I’m sure that many of you can relate with this weather. Towards the end of the season, it was becoming pretty unbearable. That’s when I decided it was time for a city break!

It worked out perfectly that I was approached a few weeks back to go to Jasper to check out the Athabasca Glacier and Skywalk attractions. I was overjoyed about this road trip as riding the all – terrain Explorer onto the Glacier is one of the things to do on my bucket list. I was also given the wonderful opportunity of test driving the 2018 Ford Escape to Jasper. Super excited, we packed our vehicle and started our road trip. Unfortunately, we never made it to Jasper. There was a sudden change in weather which led to poor visibility and road conditions. We cut our road trip short and stopped in Canmore before heading home.

The town of Canmore is about 45 minutes to an hour away from Calgary. It’s nestled in the Alberta Rocky Mountains and is known for its summits like the Three Sisters and Ha Ling Peak. There is also a great hiking trail, Grassi Lakes, as well as cute shops and restaurants. A few recommendations for shops/restaurants to check out are Le Fournil Bakery, Rocky Mountain Flatbread Co, The Range Restaurant, Communitea Café and Stonewaters Home Elements. As in typical blogger fashion, we also squeezed in a quick photoshoot.

As I reflect on our trip and some of my experiences over this winter season, I realized a few things:

THINGS HAPPEN FOR A REASON – We may not always know why they happen at that moment but they do and it’s usually for the best. In our case, we heard that the weather turned for the worse and the attractions we were going to visit also remained closed. Had we continued, we may have gotten stuck in the Rocky Mountains. Instead, we were able to spend the day enjoying nature and exploring Canmore.

LIFE IS UNPREDICTABLE – I’m a planner and I like things to go according to plan but sometimes they don’t. Sometimes unpredictability gives us that change of pace that we may need. We only spent a couple of hours in Canmore but by the time we got back to the city, my mind and body felt great.

SEASON, REASON, LIFETIME – As the season changes from winter to spring, relationships change too.  People come and go into our lives. Things change; circumstances change. I realized it’s time I let go of a once cherished friendship. We’ve all heard that saying, “People enter our lives for a reason, a season, or a lifetime. We only get disappointed if we try to force relationships beyond their purpose.”  It’s time to meet new people and build new relationships.

I’ll leave this post with this thought – with spring here; it’s a new season and the perfect opportunity to do something new, bold and beautiful.

  3. Honestly, I believe things happen for a reason and I am sure you were better off to be safe and cut your trip short and make it happen in another way. It sounds like you had quite the adventure though with your Ford Escape. Did you enjoy the way it drove? I love these reflections as we all go through them and it is important to realize that life IS unpredictable and going with the flow sometimes is the best thing for you. Thanks for sharing your trip and your thoughts! xoxo, Christine

  4. Despite the unexpected change in plans, I’m glad you were able to make the most of your trip in Canmore. It’s a beautiful place to explore indeed. And how wonderful you were able to drive the Ford Escape during your travels. Sounds like a great vehicle to tour around in. I’m sure glad the long winter season is over now and we are into Spring where those cute rain boots will come in handy.

  5. I totally agree with you, I have always believed that everything happens for a reason. I am glad you still managed to make the most of your trip and enjoyed Canmore with your Ford Escape. I know life can be unpredictable but with the right attitude we can always get through such experiences. Also I love the camel sleeveless blazer you are wearing, it looks so chic on you. Hope the weather warms up on your end so you can finally enjoy Spring.

  6. Yes, hello spring and goodbye to this awful cold weather!!

You are so right in thinking that everything happens for a reason. Everything has a cause and effect, and I do truly believe that positive thinking and attitudes can lead to more positive outcomes. Back to what you said about relationships changing, I also agree to this, but like I said above; If you leave your mind and heart open to the change, I do believe something great will follow.

  8. So happy Spring is here to welcome us to the lovely weather and beautiful flowers. I can’t wait for summer to travel to Europe. I realized myself every day things happen for a reason that we might not understand at the moment but later all the pieces are solved and everything comes into place. Thank you for sharing your experiences and insights.

  11. I loved reading this post! My favorite quote is “Just like season, people change.” I say that all the time. People and relationships do change. We grow apart, we get closer, etc. I am also a huge believer that everything happens for a reason. I am glad that you were able to enjoy your trip and look on the bright side!

  13. So sad you weren’t able to enjoy the Athabasca Glacier and Skywalk attractions, but like you said, things always happen for a reason. Maybe one day, you’ll get the chance to see them anyway! Like yourself, I’ve also had to let friends go. Some of them have different priorities and goals than me and I have no time for anyone else bringing me down!
