Splash of Colour!

Whenever I’m shopping for a top, I immediately gravitate towards black. We all know that black is slimming and flattering on almost all. There is a sophistication about black. But what about colour? Why are we sometimes afraid to grab that bright yellow/mustard top?

My thoughts:

1. Comfort zone – Just like everything in life, we get comfortable with the colours in our closet. Black, grey, white and even camel are staples. Colour can be intimating but with the right colour you can feel confident and who knows it might become a part of your new “comfort zone.”

2. Coordination – We all know that black, grey, white and camel match pretty much everything in our wardrobe. Any of these neutrals are easy to mix and match and even wear in layers. Colour can be the same. We all have that favourite pair of jeans or black pants and colour goes with any of those pieces. Throw on any neutral jacket and you have that layered look with a splash of colour!

3. Statement – Colour can make a bold statement. I know that we all feel comfortable in that Little Black Dress at a party or event but what about that girl that wears a coloured dress… we’ve all noticed her. She owns the room. Why not give it a try? If that’s too extreme for you, then adding a bit of colour (think coloured shoes/ handbag) will make that statement too.

4. Mood – I’ve noticed that my Instagram grid changes every so often. Sometimes, I stick to neutrals and other times there’s lots of colour. Subconsciously, I think my mood dictates the colours I choose to wear.

When I picked up this yellow/ mustard sweater from H&M, I wasn’t too sure about it to be honest. I’m not afraid of colour but I wasn’t sure if it was the right shade of mustard for me. I’ve come to really like this sweater and it will be on rotation for sure.

Sometimes all you need is a splash of colour!

  1. I think it’s great to mix things up sometimes and pick up an item we wouldn’t normally wear. Mustard yellow is a great color to have in one’s wardrobe 🙂

  2. I have been adding color to my wardrobe recently too! I totally agree with all of your points and adding color makes such a difference in mood and on your feed. One of the colors I have been adding is this mustard as well and it is beautiful and cheers you up on a cold, winter day. It is a fab color to coordinate with jeans and even with olive tones and browns. Love that bag too! xoxo, Christine

    1. Hi Christine, I hadn’t thought about coordinating mustard with olive and brown tones but I will. Thanks for the tip! Xo

  3. Love the color of your sweater. The mustard is so luxurious and warm. I tend to gravitate towards black, greys, and cream as well but I agree, sometimes it’s fun to step outside of your comfort zone and try something new. A pop of color is such a great way to brighten up ones mood during the winter!

  5. To be honest, I’m not a big fan of colours, I prefer to keep it simple. Black, white and grey my go-to colours. But sometimes, and you’re right here, we all need some pop of colour. This jumper looks so beautiful, I love how different it is and at the same time unique. I do believe this yellow mustard is going to be on trend the upcoming season.
